16th "A Thanksgiving Tradition"

Sea Speak Storytelling Special November Session
in Memory of the Late John J. Baran Jr.
and In-Aid of HIGH HOPES Helping Dublin's Homeless

We will meet the 3rd Thursday
16th November 2017, 8pm-10pm

(next to The Top House) (across the street from the Church)
Get to us via the DART, #31 Bus, car or walk.

The theme's for this month are "A Thanksgiving Tradition"
and "A Story for My Supper". John is the Late Father of Host-Storyteller Daria, he was an Advocate and Activist against Food Poverty forming with his Wife, Daria's Mother Alice, their Church's first Social Concerns Committee. One of the Committee's primary goals was to tackle Food Poverty, staring with The Thanksgiving Food Baskets. Funds were raised, donations sought and an army of volunteers brought together every year to collect, pack and deliver each and every one of these special Food Baskets in time before Wednesday, to ensure that Families in need not only had their Thanksgiving Food, but had the time to prepare the meal which is an American Tradition.

While Thanksgiving is not a holiday here in Ireland, you'll find that it is celebrated here by a small group. Food Poverty, a Hunger Crisis, a Housing Crisis and a Homeless Crisis are real issues facing Ireland today. Here in the Capital these issues are getting worse by the day. To Honour all the Work John, who died earlier this year, did to stop Food Poverty in this month of Thanksgiving we decided to 'Tell Our Stories for Others Supper'. We have chosen a wonderful group of Volunteers close to home - HIGH HOPES Helping Dublin's Homeless, led by Liz Webster. Thanks to donations they secure food, makes dinners, and go out on the Dublin streets twice a week, setting up a table and feeding the needy. We ask you to Join Us in Raising Funds on Thursday 19th November at McNeil's Pub.

September 2016

Welcome! To Sea Speak Storytelling Season 2016/2017! We are a Community Arts group made up of Storytellers, of all levels, and Story-lovers who love to Listen and have a good laugh. Hosted by Howth resident, Storyteller Daria Marie Walsh we meet on the third Thursday of the month at McNeill's of Howth Pub on Main Street in Howth, from 8pm-10pm. We are delighted to be in our fourth year, having launched in 2013. We are open and always looking for new members. So, please join us this September.

Today is a day for remembering and for sharing stories, stories that bring to life people and time lost.

Today Pres. Michael D. Higgins unveiled the National Famine Memorial at Glasnevin Cemetary and in his speech reogni
sed that lost tribe of the Diaspora that was exiled across the globe during the famine and the 20-30 years following. This tribe remained true to their culture, carefully handing it down from generation to generation. This tribe has it's own Stories.
Today we commemorate 15 years since the 9/11 attacks. That day has it's own Stories and the thousands of people killed, hurt and affected and the city it transformed has it's own Stories.

The 2016/2017 season will be about Telling. Listening and exchanging about ideas of - TRANSFORMATION.

September our Stories will be lead by the themes of 9/11, An Gorta Mor (The Great Famine), and The Diaspora

Can't wait to hear your Stories!!

As always it's FREE-IN and we'll be meeting in the Library/Nook, down by the fireside at McNiells Pub.
